Saloon Pyloon! The best diner this side of the galaxy – Jedi: Survivor
The Star Wars lore is vast and full of architectural enchantments. For me, Saloon Pyloon is everything I love about Star Wars. A small cantina forgotten on the outskirts of the galaxy, filled with love for this series. Jedi: The Survivor invites you for a drink!

Every Star Wars fan loves them for something different. For example, I love the atmosphere of desert planets and dark pubs somewhere on the outskirts of the galaxy. I also love them for their swamps, icy wastelands, and the coldness of imperial corridors. The second part of Cal Kestis’ adventures absolutely bought me in this respect.
Wild West on Koboh
At the beginning of the game, the action takes us to Coruscant (yawn), where we also learn that Cal has new friends, old enemies, and his previous companions have scattered around the galaxy. Luckily for me, the action quickly takes us far from the center of the galaxy, to the planet Koboh in the Outer Rim.
Already here you can see references to the core of what Star Wars is, i.e. wastelands and small human settlements in the middle of nowhere. Koboh is a bit like the Wild West. A small settlement in the middle of a large map, where seekers can find treasures or adventures in small canyons.
Saloon Pyloon – Greez’s dream come true
It is in the center of a small settlement called Rambler’s Reach Outpost, where there is a large pub owned by our old friend Greez Dritus. The name of this temple comes from the name of Greez’s great-grandmother – Pyloon. And the place itself refers to the tradition of western saloons.
It’s not just a bar or a pub, as we would say today. A place for relaxation, dialogue and spending time together in this small community. In other words, a saloon is like a church, but with alcohol available to everyone.
We learn from the game that Cal’s companions had broken up with him some time earlier, but they kept in touch. A good example of this is the fact that Cere lent the money to open Greeza’s cantina. So Cal’s mentor from the first part.
Saloon Pyloon is undoubtedly a dream come true for Greez, known for his incredible culinary skills and care for the comfort of his guests, which he has proven many times in previous adventures. At one point during the trip, he even jokes that he would open another such establishment because it is a sensible idea for a franchise.
A building rooted in Koboh
Buildings created for the Star Wars lore are compositions “from scratch to wood”. Styles are mixed, unconventional elements are added, and strange inspirations are combined. But this architectural bazaar stands out brilliantly in Jedi: Survivor.
Greeza’s canteen is a building with many external elements. It consists of several oval connected shapes, which definitely refers to the landscape of the planet. This adds authenticity to it! It is equipped with quite interesting round eaves protecting from the sun, and there is also a garden on the roof.
It can therefore be assumed that the inhabitants of the planet try to use their space for crops. This proves that the planet is not the safest, since so much care is given to harvesting.
The building also has a characteristic cylindrical tower that serves as a wind turbine. And even if it is there completely by accident, it fits perfectly here and gives the whole structure a nice break to the eye. It emphasizes the importance of the building and is a natural dominant, which is important in enjoying the gameplay.
The interior is full of details, the essence of Star Wars
The building has four main levels, and the saloon is entered through a large portal. Then we have to go through the corridor inside the building and then go down the stairs. The main hall itself is located in the center of the building, providing guests with some respite from the hot rocky paths of Koboh. The remaining utility rooms constitute a thermal barrier. Buildings are constructed in exactly the same way in the Middle East.
The entrance to the saloon itself is, of course, defended by the TT-8L/YZ entry droid known from the movie “Return of the Jedi”. And seriously. You should stop for a moment before entering so that the droid has a chance to look at you. A very nice touch for every Sunday Star Wars fan.
What’s for you, crazy?
As a huge fan of drinks and bar interiors, I visit all possible pubs in games. It couldn’t be any different with Saloon Pyloon. After going down the stairs, we see a long, rounded bar, and behind the M-6NK droid, which is the bartender, there is a beautiful aquarium. Interestingly, the aquarium has two levels and can also be viewed on the floor above.
The aquarium itself, with its backlight and vivid colors, contrasts beautifully with the finishing elements that refer to the colors of the planet itself – beiges, browns and various shades of chocolate. There are tables placed near the outer walls of the room, resembling those we saw, for example in Mos Eisley.
The first floor is also the location of the DJ (DD-EC), who must be recruited in a separate mission, and a bathroom for guests. And here I always have a slight disagreement with all sci-fi franchises featuring various space races. Well, how to prepare a bathroom that meets the physiological needs of different species?
The creators managed to escape this unscathed by leaving one of the cabins closed and placing devices of unknown purpose in the room. The interior itself also refers in finishing to the rounded façade elements. It turned out beautifully! And yet this is a room that the player will enter of his own free will once or twice at most.
There is also a back room and kitchen on the first floor, as well as stairs on both sides of the bar. And if you’re wondering how to open the locked door opposite the kitchen, you have to talk to Moran standing at the counter every time. You’re welcome.
Other floors
The second floor of Saloon Pyloon is an open mezzanine with a view of the main level of the canteen. A very interesting solution! And in the very center there is the previously discussed aquarium, whose fauna is managed by Skoova Steve. A friendly angler, not to be confused with a fisherman.
Skoov must be recruited in a separate mission, but it is not particularly difficult. On this floor there is also a gambling place (but not Pazaaka, it’s a pity) and several NPCs with whom we can talk. Then we can go up the stairs to the roof, where there is a garden.
The garden is taken care of by Pili Walde, who (surprise!) can be recruited during a separate mission. On the roof, apart from the gardens, you can also see some interesting objects. A type of primitive water tower or installation, perhaps a type of air conditioning.
Greez’s chamber
In the basement there is the room of Greez himself, which places his honor at our disposal whenever we arrive at his canteen. This is one of the nicest places in the entire building. The room is centrally located under the saloon and has a circular plan.
Greez’s bedroom has tons of trinkets and details that all Star Wars fans will love. It’s clear that the creators put a lot of effort into ensuring that as much Star Wars magic flowed from the screen as possible.
Many design elements have rounded elements, which reflect the character of the entire building. And one of the exits from the room looks carved from stone, which absolutely convinces me. Cables hang from the ceiling, the whole thing is illuminated by a huge round chandelier, and the flowers are additionally illuminated by red lamps.
Greeza’s bed carved in the rock also looks great. That’s what Star Wars setting is for me. This is “Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away” for me. Where modernity meets almost primitive construction. Natural materials decorated with futuristic elements.
Star Wars pushed to the max
For me, the Pyloon Saloon is the most refined place in all of Jedi: Survivor. But that doesn’t mean that the other places are worse! Greeza’s Cantina is a hub that we visit many times during the game, so it’s no wonder that it is the most memorable. The creators were aware of this and that’s why they put so much effort into making every Star Wars fan feel good here.
The whole game gave me a lot of pleasure. Discovering further places, landscapes and landscapes that could be the setting for subsequent series and films based on the Star Wars lore was a real pleasure. And Cal and Merrin’s relationship is a nice bonus. For me, as a fan of the old saga, it’s just a great mix. I recommend!
If you’re in Koboh, drink a round to my health!
If you liked my post and would like to somehow appreciate the effort I put into preparing this text, feel free to buy me a coffee
I bought the game for testing with my own funds.
